CBS News — Bingo sites are banned from the United States, CBS NEWS — It was the only country in the world that banned bingo from the US, President Donald Trump said Wednesday.
“It’s really unfortunate,” Trump said at a news conference.
“We have to get it back to the way it was.”
“It is a very sad day,” Trump added.
“I know that it is very sad.
It is a sad day.
But it is a great day.”
Bingo, a game of chance, originated in the United Kingdom.
It began in the late 19th century, and has become a big draw for kids in countries like Germany and Ireland.
Trump said he will work with Congress to reinstate bingo on the mainland.
The U.S. has the third-highest rate of gambling in the developed world behind the United Arab Emirates and Singapore, according to the International Gaming Association.
The average amount spent on bingo in the U.K. was about $12,000 last year, according the British government.
